how to prevent panic attacks

The symptoms of panic attack can last for a few minutes up to an hour. Certainly, the symptoms of an attack are distressing and un-nerving, maybe even frightening.  After the panic attack subsides the sufferer’s body will feel tired and shaky.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones who suffer from frequent attacks, you really need to seek medical attention. Many people do not seek treatment even if they experience subsequent panic attacks. Bear in mind that even if these episodes do not pose serious risks, there may be underlying medical conditions involved.

Some people may not be able to handle panic attacks well. Consequently, they experience depression. If you are manifesting symptoms of avoidance behavior, seek support from your friends and family. Though panic attacks can be both humiliating and distressing at the same time, it does not mean that you have to hide away from life.

Only a qualified health professional can make sound judgment about your panic attacks.  Treatment methods for panic attacks can include therapy and medications. The duration as well as the degree of treatment method you can receive will be dependent on the severity of the symptoms of panic attack that you experience.

It’s a good idea, before consulting a doctor, to list down all the symptoms you experienced while having the panic attack.  Then when you go for your appointment, your doctor can make an accurate diagnosis, and provide you with ways on how you can cope with the symptoms of panic attack. They can also suggest some panic attack self help techniques that can teach you how to stop a panic attack before it overwhelms you.  Being prepared and knowing the warning signs that your body gives you at the onset of an attack, enables you to cope with the situation and overcome the panic attack.
